[ in brae's opinion, information is one of the shittiest ways to make your money. it's one of those things of "once the secret's out," and then suddenly, what you have is no longer valuable. it's been effectively spent, made common, and, therefore, is useless.
which is one of her top five reasons for avoiding the intel business altogether.
she hates the people it attracts, the creeps that run it, and when it comes to keeping secrets, brae is just usually not your girl, loudmouth that she is. however, when a particularly lucrative job comes a-knocking, brae would be an idiot to turn it down.
money speaks a whole lot louder than most of her personal misgivings, few though they may be.
the intel itself, saved on a nifty little chip, happens to contain some incredibly damning evidence against one of the more prominent and crucial political voices in contemporary government. brae, however, gives all of zero fucks about what happens to political figures or how the federation tends to run (because, well, what she does in general is usually all kinds of illegal), and in the far spread drifter colonies, few if any of the stations respected the authority of a government scrambling to unite and control the remaining terrans.
it's futile, if you ask brae, but plenty of people out there believed in the importance of a united terran front; she's sure some of it spawns from xenophobia and an intense fear of change, because with the abandonment of earth, terrans have had to come to terms with the fact that they aren't the biggest or the baddest in the universe anymore.
that'll blow more than a few minds — and make the rest wildly uncomfortable.
but here brae happens to be, chip in her possession, and multiple interested parties vying for the information. government and anti-government alike, because one side wants to destroy the information, while the other wants it exposed and spread to the edges of the galaxy.
what it comes down to for brae?
who's going to make it worth her while.
she doesn't care where the chip goes or who does what with the information, just that she comes out on the other side sitting pretty.
it's why she's not all that surprised when she ends up with someone trying to take the information from her. pain in the ass, meddling jerks that the terran federation happens to be, she nearly expected them to pull something dirty rather than negotiating with her, and when fallon deposits a roughed up man in the gibraltar's common area, brae just gives him a onceover, arms crossed over her chest as she appraises the intruder. ]
Okay, but really. Did nobody ever teach you it's rude to steal?
[ she scoffs, plucking the chip from her back pocket and absently turning it over in her hands. ]
